This very lovely and useful book contains the complete text of Anne of Green Gables. You will appreciate much more the writing of Lucy Maude Montgomery much more after reading the notes in this annotated version. Hundreds of notes describe the real-life characters and settings Anne encounters. After reading studying Anne of Green Gables and using this book as a reference we realize the astonishing range of literary, Biblical, and mythological references in Mrs. Montgomery's work. Additional essays offer fascinating background information on such topics as the geography and settlement of the area, the education, orphanage and music of Anne`s time; and the horticulture, homemade artifacts, and food preparation that are so prevalent in the story. Also included are scores of lavish illustrations, drawings, and photographs. This does not present a Christian world view and there is a feminist slant in some of the commentaries which you may want to discuss with your students. If you are an Anne fan you will definitely want this book.
