Old Man and the Sea, The - CD Study Guide

The Study Guide

We have sold Bible based literature study guides from Progeny Press for a number of years and have been very pleased with them. Progeny Press Study Guides are used in conjunction with age appropriate novels to explore literature from a sound Biblical perspective. These study guides deal with literature as works of art and philosophy, explain and use literary terms, and deal with plot construction. They dig into why the characters act, believe, and feel as they do and examine what the Bible says in similar circumstances. Easy-to-use lessons include vocabulary exercises, comprehension and analysis, critical thinking, questions on related Biblical principles, activities, plus a complete answer key.

The Novel Summary:

A classic tale of the struggle of man against nature. After 84 days without taking a fish, Santiago is soon to catch something larger than he ever imagined. It is his courage and perseverance of character that enables him to go out to sea in his weather-beaten boat each day despite the hardship and the disappointment of catching nothing. In the midst of ridicule from younger fishermen, Santiago finds courage in his friendship with a young boy, Manolin, who has fished with Santiago since he was five years old. But because of Santiago's "bad luck," Manolin's parents will not allow the boy to fish with Santiago any more. One day Santiago goes out once more, further than usual, and he catches something - something large that pulls him and his boat out to sea. His endurance in the face of apparent defeat is the stuff of legends.
